Why I Went Into the Jungle

Because I wanted to become blind again,
as at birth, because I wanted to feel
darkness heavy and wet around me
like sex or death, the molecules of night
dancing in my skin like jaguars.
I wanted to lose my way
to light because truth
loves darkness, I wanted to be
where I didn't know the names
of things to learn them
as blood learns the way of veins.
I wanted to fall into the malarial waters,
to be born again, a thing alive
and dark with knowing.
